For José Gaytan, photography has always been a way of life.  From painting abstract landscapes with his lens to capturing unexpected moments in portraits, he has a knack for uncovering different versions of reality.

He works with light, shape, space and time to craft a personal vision or bring an idea to life for a client.  Known by professional photographers as the “go-to” source for camera equipment, he moves easily between film and digital and stays on top of the latest industry trends.

As former faculty member at the International Center of Photography of 15 years, Jose considers himself a student of life who keeps learning with every photo he takes.

Recently, his photographic ode to the Gowanus Canal was featured in the main gallery of The Brooklyn Public Library. The exhibition "Gowanus: Brooklyn In Transition"  will be up from June 19th through August 29th at the central branch located at 1 Grand Army Plaza.

When not taking photos, he’s often doing one-on-one photography instruction and consulting.  If he’s not behind the camera, you’ll find him playing one of his many acoustic guitars or walking his dogs, Lola and Rudy, in Brooklyn’s Park Slope.
